The USC Trojan Invitational, typically a mediocre quality college track meet, has taken advantage of scheduling shifts to host a top-notch meet this weekend at Loker Stadium.
Along with the Trojans’ own team that features numerous All-American sprinters, other top collegiate teams headed to Los Angeles include three-time reigning NCAA outdoor champion Texas A&M and Oregon, recent winners of the NCAA women’s indoor team title. Also scheduled to attend are Pac-12 rivals Washington and Washington State as well as BYU and Michigan.
Unlike previous years, the meet will feature a Friday night distance carnival with men’s and women’s 3000 meter, 5000 meter and 10,000 meter races.
The Stanford Invitational typically falls this weekend, two weeks after the NCAA Indoor Championships, but was moved two weeks later to April 6-7 as to not interfere with the Texas Relays on March 28-31.
Race entries have not yet been released. Ken Goe of The Oregonian reported on Sunday that Oregon 800 meter All-American Elijah Greer is expected to race.
