UC Irvine half-miler Charles Jock opened up his 2012 outdoor campaign on Saturday with a win in the 1000 meters in a time of 2:22.75 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet in Claremont, California.
Jock was just 0.05 seconds ahead of second placer Alex Amankwah of West Los Angeles College.
Jock, known for his relentless front-running strategy, was the NCAA 800 meter runner-up in 2011, narrowly finishing second in an epic finish against Virginia’s Robby Andrews.
Jock went on to finish third at the USATF Championships in a new personal best of 1:44.67.
The effort earned him a spot on Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, where he was unable to make it out of the first round.
