U.S. Olympian Magdalena Lewy-Boulet won the Big Sur Half Marathon on a cold and rainy Sunday morning on California’s Central Coast. Her winning time of 74 minutes, 16 seconds was 19 seconds ahead of second place finisher and fellow 2008 Olympic marathoner Blake Russell.
Both are preparing to qualify for their second Olympic teams at the Olympic Trials Marathon in Houston on January 14.
Jeannette Faber of Portland, Ore. was third in 75 minutes, 27 seconds.
Ethiopian Ezkyas Sisay won the men’s race in a time of 63 minutes, 48 seconds. Sunday’s race came just two weeks after Sisay placed ninth at the New York City Marathon in a personal best 2 hours, 11 minutes, 4 seconds.
Sisay lives and trains in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Sisay narrowly edged out former University of Arkansas standout and Mammoth Lakes, Calif. resident Josphat Boit and Benson Cheruiyot of Valparaiso, Ind. Boit as just two second behind Sisay in 63 minutes, 50 seconds and Cheruiyot five second back in 63 minutes, 53 seconds.
