The New York Road Runners have spiced up marathon weekend in the Big Apple with the NYRR Dash to the Finish Line 5k, an elite 5000 meter road race the day before the New York City Marathon. The course begins near the United Nations headquarters and finishes in Central Park.
The race has attracted some of America’s top distance runners as well as top international talent.
Dathan Ritzenhein and Matt Tegenkamp, two of America’s sub-13 minute 5k men, lead the men’s field. Ritzenhein has not raced in over a year due to injury and is preparing for the Olympic Trials Marathon in January. Tegenkamp last raced at the World Championships in Daegu where he was 10th in the 10,000 meters.
World 10,000 meter silver medalist Sally Kipyego of Kenya is the top entrant for the women. She will be challenged by American 5000 meter record holder Molly Huddle, U.S. marathon record holder Deena Kastor and sub-15 minute 5k runner Lisa Uhl.
