Viewer’s Guide To Day 4 Of The IAAF World Championships

Today is the final day of competition before a break on Wednesday when only one event – the women’s 20 kilometer race walk – will take place.  The United States has finalists in each of the day’s five finals.  Jen Suhr will look to take down world record holder Yelena Isinbayeva  and others in the unpredictable pole vault.  Texas Tech grad Jason Young represents a long shot medal opportunity in the discus.  Half-miler Nick Symmonds won each of his two preliminary rounds and is confident that he can win a medal.  The American will face stiff challenges from favorites David Rudisha and Abubaker KakiEmma Coburn did well to make the final but has little shot of competing against world number one Milcah Chemos of Kenya.  Lashawn Merritt seeks to redeem himself from drug suspension and defend his World title against Caribbean foes Jermaine Gonzales and Kirani James.
