Usain Bolt Overcomes Flu to Win 200 Meters at Paris Diamond League

The ever un-narcissistic Usain Bolt wins in Paris (Universal Sports)

Despite suffering from the flu, Usain Bolt handily won the 200 meters on Friday at the Diamond League meeting in Paris.  Bolt’s winning time was 20.03 seconds, well ahead of hometown favorite Christophe Lematire who was second in 20.21 seconds.

Reports from the BBC before the race indicated Bolt was considering withdrawing from the meet due to the illness.  About an hour before the gun was to go off, Bolt reported his readiness in the follow tweet:

Ppl I’m good..born african warrior..no flu will stop this run

Despite getting the win, Bolt was not thoroughly pleased with his performance.  He tweeted the following after the race:

Wanted to do better peeps stupid starter took forever to get it going but on to the next one.

Although he has been winning races, Bolt has not yet looked impressive in 2011.  With less than two months remaining until the World Championships, Bolt has a lot of work to do if he wishes to defend his World titles over 100 and 200 meters.
