A number of athletes from the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project will be competing in Sunday’s San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. I had the opportunity to chat with Melissa White, Lavenna Mullenbach, Luke Humphrey, and Sage Canaday, each of whom have the Olympic Trials standard but are looking to improve upon their personal bests.
White has a personal best of 2:32:55 from Chicago in 2009 but is looking to run near the 2:30 mark and establish herself as a contender for the 2012 Olympic team.
Mullenbach graduated from Division II powerhouse Adams State in 2009 and will be tackling her first marathon as a member of the Hansons-Brooks squad.
Humphrey, now in his eighth year training with the Hanson brothers in Rochester Hills, discusses using San Diego as an attempt for a personal best leading up to the Trials. He also talks about his role as a mentor on the team.
Canaday looks to go out aggressively in hopes of a new PR and gives a plug for his new book, “Running for the Hansons”. Find out more about it and purchase it here.
