Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon to Take Over San Diego’s Streets This Weekend

What:

The 14th annual Dodge Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon to Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society®.

San Diego’s largest running event has drawn a sold-out field of nearly 32,000 entrants, featuring an international collection of Olympic athletes, the infamous running Elvi, cheerleads, fanfare and 45 live bands performing at each mile along the course.

Why:

More than 3,100 Team In Training participants will raise more than $9 million dollars for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the 2011 event. Charities have raised in excess of $256 million since the inception of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series in San Diego in 1998.

  • 65% of all participants traveling from outside San Diego County.
  • Race weekend generates more than 41,000 hotel room nights and over $54 million in total economic impact for the region, according to a study conducted by the San Diego State University Sports MBA program.
  • ING KiDS ROCK San Diego will take place on Saturday, June 4. More than 1,500 kids in grades K – 7 will participate in the one-mile fun run at SeaWorld.
  • The marathon course features a scenic, point-to-point tour of San Diego including the Prado in Balboa Park, Gaslamp Quarter and a stretch inside the ‘Park at the Park’ at PETCO Park. Event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and free post race concert headlined by Nada Surf.
