Following up her earlier win the mile, Jordan Hasay took down the 3000 meter title in a dramatic race at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The pace was slow early on until Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook took hold of the lead with 800 meters remaining. Only Hasay and Villanova’s Shelia Reid were able to hang on to Van Dalen’s surge. With a lap to go, Hasay seized the lead and was twice able to hold off Reid’s attempts to pass over the course of the last 150 meters to hang on for the championship, her second of the day. The winning time was 9:13.71.
Oregon already had the team championship wrapped up and Hasay’s win only helped to pad the margin of victory.
