Oregon sophomore Jordan Hasay claimed her first national title in Saturday’s one mile run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The eight-time California state champion at Mission College Prep in San Luis Obispo was tucked in second place behind Zoe Buckman for the majority of the race before sprinting by her teammate to claim the win in a time of 4:33.01, a UO school record. The win was redemptive for Hasay after her emotional runner-up anchor leg in Friday’s distance medley relay.
Buckman finished in third behind Duke’s Kate Van Buskirk while another Duck Anne Kesselring was fourth. The Oregon trio scored 21 crucial team points in the team’s attempt at a second consecutive team title.
Hasay is entered in the 3000 meters later in the meet, but may choose not to run if the Ducks already have the win in the team competition wrapped up.
