2008 Olympian and sub-13 minutes 5000 meter runner Matt Tegenkamp is a late entry for Saturday’s USA Cross Country Championships. Tegenkamp announced the decision earlier today on his Twitter page.
Tegenkamp will be joining Nike Oregon Project teammates Andrew Bumbalough, Shalane Flanagan, and Lisa Koll for the meet in San Diego.
He also took a clever shot at the Letsrun forum members. “Not sure what coach is thinking since everyone knows I only run 5k; and we all know I don’t run 10k,” Tegenkamp quipped, “so how am I going to run 12k?”
Tegenkamp’s presence in the race will surely spice things up in the men’s race even though he hasn’t run a cross country race in five years. Although he can’t be declared the overwhelming favorite, Teg will surely be in the mix for the win.
